Vol 52

Now isn't this IRONIC!!!!

I'm excitedly typing this entry right now because, as of 10 minutes ago, I've successfully completed my New Years Resolution to read 52 books.
YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now the ironic part is that my goal was to read 52 books.
This just so happens to be Vol 52.
And to top it off, if you look at the month and date for today, it is 05-02 aka 52.
Ho Ho Hahaha!!!

Now I remember the titles of the other books I forgot.

Pleasure Seekers by Rochelle Alers. (I would have been happier with this book if Alana didn't get pregnant by her lame ass ex-boyfriend.)

Lessons from a Younger Lover by Zuri Day. (OH I ADOREDDDD Ransom. Just because because his name was Ransom. And i kinda have a thing for kougar stories. Gwen was 15 years older than Ransom. Ransom was a single dad. His baby mother was insane. His neighbor chick/friend was too desperate. And Adam, Ransom's older brother and Gwen's former classmate, was a has-been who got what he deserved. Ransom should have whipped his butt, again. Ransom's daughter was cute but since I don't like sassy little girls, she was only cute. She was no Justin from Choices, or Keenan, the cubs or Ben from the Psy-Changeling series. She wasn't even a Noor from the Psy-Changeling series. Not that his daughter was bad, but bah!!!)

Crossing the Line by Bernice Layton. (This was an Indigo Love Spectrum book, and if you've read my previous entries, especially the earlier ones from this year, you'd know that ILS is a interracial publisher. So this was Black girl, white guy. The reason I read this book was because the author is from my City **BALTIMORE!!!** and I hoped that the story would be entertaining. It was. I liked it. My coworker loved it, but she tends to love anything from ILS. She loved it so much, that she bought the book from me, now she owes me another book. HA! I always find these books unrealistic with their one week loves, but I liked how the two character felt so miserable while separated.)


I've mentioned Brenda Jackson's series The Westmoreland's in my previous two-three posts.
I'm still working on it.
So far I've managed to read:
1. Dulaney's Desert Sheikh (Jamal...*smh* no way you could think Dulaney would follow certain customs that belittled women. She is definitely a handful.)

2. Seduced By a Stranger (Who wasn't really a stranger since it was Johari's fiance. This story and Dulaney's story was interesting because it had a portrayal of how someone of Middle Eastern Culture is expected to act. Not that it was an accurate portrayal, but I liked talking to my middle eastern friends about it.)

3. The Chase is On. (Of course Chase would fall for Jessica...or in this case, Jessica would fall for Chase, when their families were once friends now Sworn enemies.)

4. Seduction, Westmoreland Style (Although it's called Seduction, Westmoreland Style, I think McKinnon Quinn had a larger role. The story was told through his eyes more. But now that I think about it, the story is always told by the person who is NOT Westmoreland. Shelly, Jessica, McKinnon. I think Dulaney and Durango's stories were told more through there view...or evenly)

5. The Durango Affair (They met in "The Chase is On" at Chase and Jessica's wedding. Apparently they got busssyyyy that night, and well into the morning. Two months later, Savannah, Jessica's sister, shows up at Durango Westmoreland's home in Montana to tell him that she is pregnant. She didn't want anything from him, but she felt that he should know and it would have been wrong to tell him via phone. But the two end up marrying for the baby's sake. A Marriage in name only...or so they thought! HA!)


If you can count, you can see that this makes 52.
Pleasure Seekers is the book that I FORGOT, in my previous post, so So pleasure seekers through Crossing the Line are books 45-47. (Which I mentioned in my last post).
Now the Westmoreland series makes it 52.


FIFTY-TWO BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
This is really a big accomplishment for me.
From 2005-2008, My book total was less than 5.
5 books in 3 years.
I started reading last summer and read a good number, more than 20 for sure.
So in a way my count is in the 70's if you think July 2009-July 2010.

Vol 51

I was asked a simple question: Why do I buy my books and not borrow them from the library?

I gave a simple answer: Library's disgust me.

They really do! Do you have any idea how many people borrowed that book before you? NO! And if you look at some of the conditions those books be in, and all the crap on the pages: grease stains, food spills, BOOGERS!
*shudder*
I do borrow some books occasionally.
There are four books in this picture that are from the library. (Middle shelf, top four books laying flat)
And all the books on top (Brenda Jackson's Westmoreland series) are borrowed from a coworker (she introduced me to that ever so loved Psy-Changeling series), but I often switch books with this coworker. Besides a bigillion folded corners, her books are always in great condition. CLEAN condition.


Anyway, I'll try to list some of the other books I read recently.
Some titles I forgot, and my coworker currently has them. She borrows from me, sometimes.

1. Oak Bluffs by Joan Early (3 out of 5 stars. The mother was annoying, good thing she wasn't around often, and hated how mother Pearl just died like that. But it was well written)

2. I'm your Girl by J.J Murray (5 out of 5. Now the mother is this was really hypocritical. Couldn' stand her. It was a interracial couple book. Dear gods, how I felt so bad for Jack. And this book was written by a white man. Never thought I'd see the day where I'd read a book about a Black women and white men, written by a white man. 本当にすごい！今年の一番好きな本！ハハハ！日本語覚えているよ！久しぶりだね！！！)

*I'm going to skip three books because I forgot the names and I my coworker has them*

3. The Darkest Angel/Night/Kiss (This is a novella and the first two books of Gena Showalter's 'Lords of the Underworld' series. It would have been pointless to write out the title of all three books separately when the only world to change for each book title is the last world. I'll give this one a 3 out of 5, but note that I've only read three parts too it. I have the next two book **the two in the picture, first shelf** and another books comes out in May. I'm not a religious person at all but I've always found Greek and Roman mythology fascinating ***I even wrote a fiction that involved my own fictional Greek and Roman characters***, so when I read this book and saw how it's kind of a spin-off about the Greeks, not so much about the Gods themselves, but about their warriors, found myself enthralled. I'll only give it three stars because not finished and some parts are rather tedious, like book two (Kiss), Lacien continued to push Anya away although she all but literally handed herself to him on a platter. It was annoying. 230 pages before he acted. Foolish man!)

4. A Little Dare by Brenda Jackson (3 out of 5. A lot better than that last Brenda Jackson book. I was afraid to read this, but it was in another book I borrowed that had a Rochelle Alers story. LOVED THIS, but not enough to give it 5 stars. Loved it because his name was Dare. Loved it because unlike the other book I read, this one had a plot. Loved it because Shelly was a lovely woman. Loved it because Little Dare was exactly like I would picture a 10 year old. And sorry, Anyone series that has leads with names like Dare, Thorn, Stone, Storm and Chase (last two are twins) deserves some loving.)

5. Stone Cold Surrender by Brenda Jackson (Currently reading it so no rating yet. But I would like to read one of those mystery's Rock Mason...Sorry, I mean Stone Westmoreland writes.)

CRAP! I'm forgetting a few of them. I just know it.

Anyway, this is 47, even though I know I'm missing some. At this rate, I'll be finish my goal by the end of May.

Does original fictions count?? Not my own, but my friend is writing one (kinda forced her to). I read that. Actually, she wrote two I read, but since it's not published I won't add them into my list. So still 47 until I find the one's I'm missing. I bet my coworker has them.

Today I am reading this book.
It's going to piss me off. It's about the intra-racial issues within the black community amongst females. Skin tone. Hair texture. Things like that.
I'm 4 pages into it and already I have a problem with it.

Carmella, an advertiser, is pissed that Halene, a black cosmetic line creator, wants to use a light-skinned model inside of the dark-skinned model that they choose. She's going on about how white people can piss you off many ways, but it's a black person who breaks your heart when they diss their own kind.

Now there is this guy, Shane, who likes Carmella, and she knows it. She talks about how fine he is, but she wouldn't date him because he's light-skinned. Not here flava, as she so kindly said. She even goes on to say that he might be high maintence and stares in the mirror a lot, all because he's light-skinned.

What the hell kind of shit is that? Now isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.

Anyway, I'm in love with the Westmoreland brothers. Just their names are so freaking weird but seductive in a way. Dare, Thorn, Stone, Storm and Chase. WTF kind of names are these??? It's funny how Storm and Chase (twins) got their names.

Well, I've been avoiding Brenda Jackson novels for a while now. Read her story Irresistible Forces and was completed turned off by the plotless smut filled book. So I hesitated to read this novella, A little Dare, but so happy I did.

I LOVED Shelly and Dare's romance. Yeah they had a bad break up 10 years ago but their love was still true. Everyone jumped on Dare's back then for breaking up with Shelly, who they all thought he would end up marrying, but he had his reasons. Stupid reason, but he had a reason. And that very reason gave Shelly a reason to not tell Dare she was pregnant with his son. Now their son is 10, Shelly just moved back to College Park, Georgia, and Dare finds out that he has a son. A son who just so happens to hate him...bad start they had.

But no matter how bad people jump on Dare, I wanted someone to jump on Shelly. Dare's reason for breaking up all those years ago was really stupid and selfish, but there is no reason big enough to hide the fact that she was pregnant and allows her to just move away. No matter how big the heart break was, she was wrong for that. But their love was so cute and true. And you can tell even now that Dare was just as hurt as Shelly when he broke up with her. He probably hurt even more. But he thought he was doing the right thing. That is why guys shouldn't make decisions that THEY THINK is best for a girl.

My friend has the rest of the Westmoreland series: Thorn, Stone, Storm, Chase, their sister Dulaney, and about...5-6 cousins. She's going to give them to me on Saturday. Definitely want to read about Thorn and Tara.

I finished my midterm paper.
Now lets hope I some how well I managed to take a subject that had absolutely nothing to do with anything and turned it into a passing paper.

As for my biology assignment...i'll try to answer those questions during lecture. Hopefully I'll finish them and that work packet before my 1pm Biology discussion class.

Today is suppse to be 88 degrees.
Why am I not excited???
I hate the heat and i'm running on a nap.

Vol 49

I feel like this thing right now.
Limp. Drowsy. Drained.
I have a midterm due in 3 hours and I'm still in the process of typing it.
You might be wondering why I'm right here typing this instead.
Well every morning my house is like a battle field.
The opposing sides: My mother vs my kid sister.
So every morning between 6 and 7am I expect to awaken by a bunch of arguing and crying...from both ends.
I'm already a huge procrastinator...(started this at 12am, despite having the assignment since thursday), and easily distracted, so there is no way I focus right now.
Once they leave I should be able to fly through the essay no problem.
I hope.
I really don't give a shit.
And I still have Biology work that is due at 1pm that I haven't started.
And no, I have no gap between classes to get this mess done.
If I even make it to class, that will be a miracle.
I tried to go to sleep, around 2:30am, but ended up waking up at 5am.
So basically, I took a nap, got up, and searched the web for an hour until I found something to write this midterm on.
And what do you know, the subject I found was the very same subject I just gave a presentation on in a different class about....15 hours ago.
Lucky me right.
That should make it tons easier.
SHOULD MAKE IT!

We just rolled into Wal-Mart 4 deep, in our National Aquarium uniforms, and what are we greeted by?

9 SUPER long ass lines.
People buying big screen TV's and dinning room sets.
Who buys this shit at 12am?
