Vol 40

Add three more to that list of four!


Alpha and Omega is a spin-off to the Mercy Thompson series.
Alpha and Omega is about Anna, the omega werewolf, and Charles, a special Alpha.

I can't remember the book order.
I think On the Prowl is the novella story.
The start.

Anna is a forced change werewolf, who is an omgea.
Omega are extremely, very, rare.
They exist outside pack structure.
They don't have to follow orders, because orders/commands don't work on them.
They can bring peace anywhere they go.
Omega's are to be treated as a prize possession.
The greatest gift.
And Anna was treated as anything other.

Charles is the second son of the over all top werewolf alpha, Bram.
He was sent to...Chicago to handle a situation there after Anna has called Bram to inform him of her local packs...operation.

Charles immediately knew that Anna was his mate, and would kill anyone who dared to harm her.
Charles, like Mercy, is half Native American.
Once upon a time, the Native American's possess their own branch of magic.
Magic that made them immune to most of the European magic.


This series is more mild compared to Mercy's life, but I would LOVE to see the two stories meet.
It's not hard.
Mercy was raised in Brams pack, although she is a coyote.
She dated Bram's oldest son, Charles's brother, Sam for a while.
All the characters know each other.
I just want to see when they all meet.
At least mention them in the other's story.
I hope in book 5, Sam tells Mercy that Charles as mated.
Just for a cross reference.

I think I'm doing well.

Vol 39

The snow was a series issue this month.
But because of that snowpocalypse, I was about to read, not one, but FOUR book.
My tía, Jime, told me about the Mercy Thompson series.
So trusting my tía, and knowing she wouldn't recommend something that was an utter failure, I read the series.

I am NOT big on the whole Vampire and Werewolf thing.
I think it's played out.
Over used.
Washed up.
A has been.
Dead!
End of story.

So I had no hopes at all for this series.
Not a one.
Jime never has never failed me.
I actually LIKED this series.

The story is about Mercedes Thomspon, who is a shape-shifter.
She shifts into a coyote.
Mercedes lives next door to the local wolf pack alpha, Adam.
The story focus on the Mercy's life as she deals with werewolves, a scooby doo loving Vamipre, Stephan, and the fae.
Mercy had a average life, as average as a female mechanic can have, but when she gets involved in one little incident, her life changes and she has to fight to live.

Seriously, Stephan and the Scooby Doo thing is hilarious.
He had Mercy turn his van into an exact replica of the mystery machine.
She even gave him a life size scooby-doo plush for him to sit in the front seat.

My overall favorite character is Wolfe.
Wolfe is a little blond teenage looking vampire.
But he's so strange.
And he just gets more strange.
I love how he nods his head to the beat of Mercy's heart whenever she's around, and how he cools out "Truth" with so many different tones.
I wonder if he's really a bad guy, or if his weirdness is just that.

Vol 38

Stuck in my bedroom
Staring at my blue walls
This snow getting on my nerves


I'm stuck in the middle of a back to back snow storm.
It snowed this past Friday/Saturday, giving us about 25inches of snow.
Then on Tuesday, another snow storm hit us, giving us about 15 more inches.
Life sucks right now.
I've been stuck in this house.
Talk about cabin fever.
I have nothing to do but school work, which I haven't even thought about doing.
I've been sitting her on my computer, reading.
Nothing else to do.
Can't go to Barnes and Noble to buy hard copies of the books, so I have to read the ebook.
My butt is sore.
Damn snow.
At least it got me out of school ALL WEEK.

Vol 37

I'm a true-blue scout.
I bring to you book number eleven, Archangel's Kiss, by that ever so mean author who I adore, Nalini Singh.
I think I mentioned the first book before in a previous post.
I honestly can't remember the name of it right now, but I read it when we were first hit with that snow storm in December.
(Unlucky me. There's another snow storm happening as I type this.)

Well in this book, Ellie has awaken, and she posses angel wings now, having been turned into by Raphael.
There were two many points to this story.
One: To train, Ellie, and make her strong enough, and to teach her how to fly, before she attends Lijuan's ball.
Lijuan is an Archangel who has evolved so much she's neither apart of this world or not apart of it.
She has the ability to raise the death, and she builds an army.
At the ball, she brings out one of the dead she resurrected.
It happened to be the vampire who killed Ellie's two older sisters, and caused her mother to commit suicide.
Ellie cuts his head off immediately.
Although Lijuan was suppose to be the villian in this story, she wasn't.
Not really.
She never gave me the bad guy feeling in the first book, so I couldn't dislike her.
Now Micheala.
Someone needs to kill her.


Two: To stop whoever it is that's going around killing (supposedly) immortals as an act of becoming the next Archangel, with the threat of making Ellie the final kill.
The highlights for this story would be Illium, (a.k.a Bluebell), Jason, and Galen.
Illium might be signing his death slips, if he keeps up his flirtatious behavior with Ellie.
But you gotta love him.
Jason doesn't have a big part much, but I really want to know what's the story behind the guy with the brown skin and half tattooed face.
Galen started to train, Ellie after Demitri went back to New York.
He made his dislike for her very known.
He had no problem working her to the bone, or feather.
I wish there was more Sara in this story.
And Deacon.




BOOK TWELVE
I read this book last night.
It only cost 99cent to download the kindle version.

Andi (Andrea) and Devin met at a party one night.
They couldn't be further apart from each other.
Andi being a self-conscious, 35 year old virgin, English Professor, who was currently writing a textbook, and just called off her engagement about a year ago.
And Devin, being an escort whom all the professors at the school use.

Andi and Devin made an arrangement.
He would teach her how to please a guy.
She would teach him how to write.
Devin had no interest in writing, but I don't think it would have taken much for Andi to convince him to go along with this idea.
His first rule was, "Do NOT fall in love with me."

Of course she did.
That was no big surprise.
But the surprise was more that he was the one who kept inviting her on dates. despite the "no socializing outside of our teaching sessions" rule he instated.
His teaching was very good.
Andi became confident.
Confident enough to start dating Sam.

She had a long distance relationship with Sam for months.
When she finally told Devin about it, after all their sorta-kinda-dating-but-not-really-dating period.
She told him a month before she was to move out of New York to Mass. where she would become the Director of an English department at some university.
(Sam also lived in Mass. But that didn't matter, because even if she didn't get the job, Sam was ready to give up everything and move to New York for her. He was charming)
Andi and Devin got into an argument the day she was moving, and he confessed his love.
He asked her not to go, but she left anyway.

But no matter how charming Sam was, Devin was so much better.
This story was very realistic.
It wasn't that cheesy happily ever after I'm use to reading.
Devin and Andi did NOT end up together.
Andi loved Devin, but she also loved Sam, and she choose Sam.
Devin and Andi reunited 16 months later in Mass. where Devin co-owns and Art Gallery.
Andi is now engaged to Sam.
The book ends with Devin asking Andi, how's the sex with Sam, to which she replies, "Fucking Fabulous".

I LOVED this book.
Both characters were likeable, and the story was realistic.
No cop out ending with the characters breaking everyone's hearts to be together.
Maybe that's why it stuck with me.
There's a part 2.
6 years later, Sam dies, leaving Andi a widower.
She runs into Devin again, but no one is good enough for her.
Sam was perfect.
Sam was the best.
And she knows that Devin is still in love with her.
So she goes to him just because "he's alive."

I didn't read book 2, and I don't think I will.
I can't sit there and watch Devin being walked over.
He was such an awesome character, and honestly, he wasn't given a fair chance in the first book.
But I still love this story.



THIRTEEN!

I started this book earlier today, and I just finished an hour ago.
Set in the year 1899.
This is one of the youngest stories I've read.
The characters are about 18-19 years old.
Todd loved Ann.
Ann loved Kent.
Kent broke off his engagement with Ann to get engaged with Rebecca.

Todd, decided he wasn't going to take over his father's bank, and he was going to move to North Dakota to become a farmer.
He was going to leave the day after graduation, despite his father threatening to disown him.

At a school dance, where Todd and Ann went together because of their parents pestering, Ann asked Todd to marry her and take her with him.
Todd says no at first, but when Ann says that she'll just runaway anyway, he agreed.
He knew Ann didn't love him.
That she loved Kent.
Ann said that she could learn to love him.
But instead of waiting a week for graduation, Ann convinced Todd to leave that night.
They snuck from the dance, packed their stuff, loaded it into a wagon, and left.

They went to Jamestown, North Dakota, where Todd had purchased a farm.
They didn't interact to well at first, because Ann didn't see him in a romantic way.
She didn't see him as a man.
He was just her best friend's brother.
A classmate.
So they shared separate rooms.

Todd valued Ann.
And Ann started to appreciate everything he did for her.
She grew up with servants, but she loved learning to cook, with the help of her neighbor/mentor Barbara.
She would make new meals for Todd to try.
When she thought that Todd was going to financial trouble, she secretly started working at a store.
She would help the store keeper in exchange for free groceries.
That way the cut their food budget.
Ann really did appreciate Todd.
She called him the best husband.
She did eventually fall in love with Todd.

Guess who shows up a few months later?
Agnus!
Agnus is Todd's sister, and Ann's best friend.
She's about 16-17.
She sneaks out of Virgina, telling her parents she was going to a retreat in New England, but instead comes to North Dakota.
She tells Ann that Kent left Rebecca, and has been asking about her.

But before Agnus can get too comfortable. guess who shows up?
Todd's parents.
The dad drags Agnus away.
He tell Todd that if he comes back now, he'll forgive him and give him his position back at the bank.
Todd HATES the bank.

Then guess who showed up the next day?
That's right, Kent!
Kent tries to force Ann back.
She pushes him away but he forces a kiss, that Todd happens to walk in on at the wrong time.
He rushed out, Ann followed by Todd wouldn't listen.


Then guess who else shows up that same day?
Ann's parents.
They were so cool and supportive.
When Ann was first dating Kent, they tried to get her to notice Todd.
They didn't like Kent very much at all.
But by time they arrived, the damage Kent has caused was underway, and Kent had already head back to Virgina.

After talking to Ann's dad, Todd decided to her Ann out, and he believed her story.
The town gossip, who witness the whole Kent/Ann thing showed up two days later to tell Todd that Kent was very aggressive, and Ann was trying to get away from him


Some time later, after Ann and Todd finally consummate their marriage, Ann ends up pregnant.
While Todd is out scouting his land, Kent shows up.
Ann hides as Kent breaks into the house.
She manages to get to the barn, but the gun is missing.
Just when all hope is lost, Todd comes riding in and shoots his shotgun, scaring the horse shit out of Kent.
Then guess who showed up at that moment?
Kent's dad.
He made Kent leave, and told Todd and Ann that he was sending Kent to Ireland to live with his very strict uncle.

Ann starts to have this Kent nightmares, that she gets over once she learns how to shoot the shotgun, vowing to kill him if he ever came after her again.
They have the baby, a boy, in December.
Ann's parents move to Jamestown.
Todd's parents shows up on Christmas.
His dad asked if all could be forgiven and they can start again.
All is forgiven.

I liked the whole concept of the story, and it didn't even phase me that the setting was old.
I liked it.




The next book I will read is my Biology textbook, followed by my Pre-calc book, and my Linguistic book, wrapping it up with some Chinese assignments.
I have a lot of assignments to complete this weekend.

Vol 36

School starts soon.
I am NOT looking forward to it.


Introducing book number *inserts drum roll* SEVEN.
Yep, that's right.
I'm already at book 7.

I wanted to read this story for a while.
It's another mixed-couple story.
Miranda, a half Brazilian half African American sports reporter, was trampled at a rock concert that her friend was covering.
Lucas, a Welsh rock star, was performing his guitar solo when he noticed that the crowd was going a little too crazy.
A "Crush" was happening.
Lucas starts to pull the victims being smashed and trampled onto the stage, and as he held Miranda it was love at first sight, for him at least.

Lucas contacts Miranda's job a few days later.
He wants to check up on her and see if she's okay.
This was the perfect publicity stunt her boss was looking for.
So the boss kinda threatens her to accept Lucas date, but one of the reporters have to go with her.
And Miranda really hated those two ass kissing smart mouth reporters.
So instead she chooses her best friend, the music reporter, to go, and they set off to Wales, to Lucas Castle.

This was a good mixed-couple story.
I liked how it Miranda and Lucas interacted.
I liked how Miranda's best friend, a gay guy, interacted with Lucas.
He was very protective of Miranda.
And I liked how Lucas best friend interacted with Miranda.
She beat the crap out of him.
Hilarious.

Jordon, Miranda's ex, was despicable.
I really didn't like him.
But her sisters fiance, Jordan's best friend, was a good guy.


I didn't know what to expect.
But overall I enjoyed the story.


But wait, there's more.

BOOK EIGHT

"Tell me something."
Her expression instantly turned serious. "If I can."
"If you wanted a woman to learn to take time out to smell the flowers, what would you do? Send her roses?"
"Never," she declared at once. "Too ordinary," Her expression turned dreamy. "If I had the money, which you do, I'd plant a whole garden for her."
"You can't be serious." He studied her expression. "You are serious, aren't you?"
"Of course. If she has her own garden, she can't help but take time to smell the flowers. and every time she does, you'll be on her mind."

Molly!" he shouted at the top of his lungs. When the house keeper appeared in the doorway, he ignored the scowl that his ill-mannered shout had spawned. "Get Mr. Sparks for me, will you?"
"You're going to plant the garden?" she asked, her expression brightening.

This is my favorite scene from the entire book.
Kevin has to be the funnest, most infuriating guy around.
But he's adorable in a way.
Very endearing.

Gracie was the manager of an international chain hotel somewhere in France.
After up and quitting one day because she and her boss never saw eye to eye, although the two of them made an excellent time.
She has no family. No friends.
After leaving France, she goes to Virginia, just outside the DC area, to this place she visited many many moons ago with her family for vacation.
She plans to stay there for just the summer.
As she takes her daily walk, she notices this empty Victorian style house, and falls madly in love with it.
She had this idea of turning it into a bed and breakfast.
She goes in search of the owner of the house to see if she could buy it.

Kevin is the one who manages the house.
Originally it was his aunt's house, the crazy old biddy.
(The elders in this story show no mercy at all. Loved it)
Kevin refuses to sell the house, but instead he starts to court Gracie.
Not that he was interested, although he was, but he felt that Gracie was too stiff.
She didn't know how to have fun, how to lay out on the beach, sip a very drinks, stop and smell the flowers.

But Aunt Delia, Molly, and Ms. Johnson, the three older ladies in the story, have their own ideas for Gracie and Kevin, and that bed and breakfast Gracie wants to build.

I really enjoyed this story.
5 out of 5 from me.

BOOK NINE

Oh god!
It's funny that the first thing I say when I remember this book is, "Oh god!"
Noah Kincaid is a minister who moves to Virgin River.
It's a nice remote village somewhere in California.
I won't lie about the location.
The entire time I read it, I thought the setting was in North Carolina.

He moves to Virgin River after buying an old abandoned church he intends to fix up.
But first he needs an assistant.
In walks Ellie Baldwin, a hard working 25 year old, with two children, by two different guys, one died and one in jail, who is currently fighting a custody battle.

Of course Ellie and Mr. Kincaid developed a special relationship.
One so special that Noah even has premarital sex with Ms. Baldwin.
That had to be the funniest part.

Noah is the kind of guy you want around when times are tough.
He's very intelligent and diligent.
He'll do everything in his power, and out of his control, to help you.
The same can be said for everyone in Virgin River as they unite to help Ellie regain custody of her children after they were wrongly taken from her.
They really were wrongly taken, and they ended up with Ellie's looney ex-husband of three months.
How is that even possible?


This was another one of the free books I received.








BOOK TEN!
Oh yeah, baby!
I got to ten books.
I read this book this week as well.
Another one of those free books I received.
School starts this week, so I read as much as my attention span allowed.

This story was short. About 200 pages give or take.
And because of the short length, I think this story was very very rushed.
By pages 40 or so, they were so madly in love. (Although the never admitted it, until page 100).
Andre was a charmer.
A conniving charmer.
And Jo was such a sweet heart.
But this story just moved to fast pace for me.
They were so in love three-four days after they met.
That just seems fickle.
But it's a nicely written fickle love story.



I tried to read the 4th book I received, but I found a major flaw in the book immediately, so I can't read it. This flaw is too huge.

Now I'm done.

Vol 35

As I said before, I went to New York this past weekend.
I got to hang out with my lovely okaasan, Roxana, whom I haven't saw since I left Japan December 22nd 2008.
Such a long time ago.
My darling otousan, Chloe, was also there.
I finally got my TVXQ Yoochun uchiwa she bought for me last summer, but she didn't have my meiji chocolates. (Which I will order offline now)
I met Didi as well. She came to Japan after I left.
She was nice and fun to play with.

Some things we did were; ate Indian food, ice skating, ate Korean food, went to see Sherlock Holmes, ate Chinese food, Karaoke (twice), ate some more, went to the book store.
It was more fun then I make it sound.
It was a very chill weekend.
But I left a few hours early.
I'm a city girl, but New York is not for me.
I was ready to get back to the mean-streets-of-Baltimore.




I also read Never Say Never, but I didn't find it to interesting.
I pretty much skimmed through it.
I don't think I was in the mood to read while I was on the bus.
Or maybe, it just wasn't an interesting book.
I've come to realize that most of these black/white couple books are very similar in plot.

Vol 34

What?
2 in 1 night?
I'm on a roll.
I just read Linda Goodwill's A Very Special Delivery.
The story was about Molly, who suffered from guilt and panic attacks after her nephew died from SIDS in her care.
She, and thanks to her sister, blamed herself for the death of 6 month old Zack.
2 Years later while living out of the city on a farm, alone, Molly meets Ethan and his 3 month old baby on a stormy night.
Ice and snow storm.
Ethan is a single dad and delivery man.
He had a package, gamma, to deliver to a cancer patient.
He stopped at the first house he came to in miles and asked, Molly's house, and asked a perfect stranger if she would watch his daughter, Laney, while he made the impossible deliver.
Molly nearly fainted.
Just being around a child causes her to panic.
Ethan manages to deliver the package and make it back to Molly's home, half frozen, but he and his daughter Laney are stranded at her house for 5 days.
The story follows Molly and Ethan's relationship that starts to develop after that 5 day snow storm.
This story was...different.
It wasn't cute, well it was cute with Laney around, and entertaining seems like the wrong word to use.
I liked it.
I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars.
But my rating for this story is different then the other books I read.
